Simen Sparre Knudsen RIP

The Murder of Simen Sparre Knudsen – murder or assassination?

On 23rd September 2007, ship captain Simen Sparre Knudsen was murdered whilst travelling from Kata, Phuket to his home near Rawai, Phuket on his motorbike.
Simen and his wife Sommai were overheard arguing the previous night, by their neighbours.  Simen had recently taken a new girlfriend and friends say he was planning to buy an apartment with a view to moving in with his new girl and had imminent plans to divorce Sommai.
Simen, it seems, had a pension from his previous employment and was working for a new shipping company. He also had a sizeable life insurance policy, his wife and young son being the benficiaries.

Thai Woman Loses House – Court Action Hidden

Another Way Thai Criminals Steal Your Property

This is a harrowing story about a Thai Woman and her family who have been defrauded of their property by Thai scam artists who make a living preying on people.  Their methods are many and varied and often they are supported by the Thai Police or the Thai Criminal Underground – the Thai Mafia as they are commonly known.  Perhaps even those people who are unsympathetic with foreigners who have difficulties may begin to understand the widespread evil that is infecting Thailand and particularly Phuket.  It is time for action to start making things more difficult for these criminals and for Thailand to take a long hard look at the police.  Maybe time to look into the assets of police and government officials – it is a simple way to see who is living above their means and highlight probable corrupt officials.  In Her Own Words…….

The Trials of Bringing A Criminal to Court - How the Thai Justice System Fails With Arrests

You may be the most law abiding person in Thailand and yet get caught up in criminal activity directed at you.  If you are a foreigner the chances are high you will be targeted because you are rich or perceived to be rich AND you are not a ‘big person’.  The risk reward is great for criminals targeting foreigners because most have no connections with people who will help and the chances are good that the criminal will not even be charged.  It is also very easy to threaten foreigners with physical harm, even death threats against them or their children and family, in order to scare them away.  If you are a victim of significant financial theft then a charge can be made against the perpetrator either through the police or through the courts.  The courts are less corrupt than the police and filing a criminal charge directly at the court and avoiding the police is often a preferred solution to bring the criminal to justice especially where a civil case is filed at the same time.  Using the police is often a bad idea as the police most often simply ask the criminal to use the money stolen from you as a bribe to avoid arrest……

Five ways to lose your money buying a new property in Thailand
There are several paths taken by foreigners trying to own property in Thailand.
Thai law is quite clear that a foreigner cannot own land in his own name. This information is of course ‘spun’ by the sellers of the property who just want your money. Sometimes they just want your money and have no intention of giving you the property knowing you cannot own it anyway. the lawyers will tell you to use a company set up or to register a lease but will rarely tell you the pitfalls that involves. In short it is very easy to be led to believe one thing when another is actually the truth. Let’s explore five methods.
